- An old custom of the Irish is the May-bush. It is said when the Jews were looking for our Lord on Spy Wednesday He went into a house with a bush growing outside the door. They had this for a mark where to find Him. The following morning they set out to search for Him but to their surprise every house had a bush growing outside and they could not find Him. Ever since in Ireland on May-Eve the people cut a May-bush decorate it and carry it from door to door.
