- Long ago Drogheda was a walled town. It was walled in to protect the town from invaders. Entrance to the town could be made by ten gates. Most of these gates are in ruins but Laurence's Gate remains. Here are some of them - Laurence's Gate, Sunday's Gate, West Gate, Duleek Gate and John's Gate. All these gates are in ruins but Laurence's Gate is in good condition still. Many tourists come to visit this old ruin and the people of Drogheda are proud of it.
