    night because everybody makes colcannon on that night. There are many tricks practised on that night. Men and boys go out on that night and play tricks on neighbours by taking their gates and leaving them in someone else's field and tie their doors so they cannot get out!

    Chalk Sunday - Sunday before Shrove - All the bachelors get their backs marked with chalk that day.
    Chalk Sunday called in this district "Pusach" Sunday. Girls who have got no offers of marriage before Shrove are "pusach" or vexed loooking. (heard from the older people of the neighbourhood)
