- Long ago the old people would say if anyone had dislike for another "he would bury the sheaf for her".The meaning of this old saying is Long ago if anyone disliked another he would bury a sheaf for him. A sheaf of corn was got and knots were put here and there on the stalks and a pin put in each knot. It was then waked like a corpse with lighted candles and then buried. When the band of the sheaf rotted the person was supposed to die of some wasting disease.
