  1. There was supposed to be a hedge school long ago in a field of Gory's below the Chapel. The hedge schoolmaster was Mr Maguire and he taught all the people around Kilbride. He used go to this spot to night and stop there for about two days then he would go to another house and do the same and so on. He used teach the scholars reading and writing but he did not teach Irish.
