- I am going to give you an account of some hedge schools I heard of
One hedge school I heard of was Master Reilly's. He lived in Tullaghanstown. He used to teach in a house belonging to Patrick Heagerty.
He used to teach all subjects in Irish. He never had a black board and he used to write on a stone, the pupils used write on slates also.
There was another old hedge in Churchtown. The teachers who taught in it were not strangers. The school was held in farmers' houses. Some of the teachers used to lodge in farmers' houses also.(continues on next page)- Collector
