- The Great Famine began in the August of 1845 and lasted for three years.
During these years great numbers of people perished either from hunger, or fever, and many of them emigrated to other countries.
A great blight came on the potatoes crop. It appears that a bluish or brown speck came on the potatoe leaves, and as time went on, it grew bigger, and finally many of them rotted.
