When driving cows or calves to or from a place we usually say "How Up" or "Come up", they generally know their own place in the cow-house or as some people call the byre.
Cows are tied with a chain round their necks & fastened to a manger in front of them, those tyings are bought in a hardware shop.
In the cow-house people hang a Saint Benedicts medal, with the beleif that disease will be kept away by it.
There is an old custom used, when the milking is done, in many places we one heard a sign of a bad milker eg "one who could not put foam on the milk, he will be a long(continues on next page)- Collector
