During the famine years the people round Kells were not as badly off as the people in other districts. They had plenty of yellow meal. But Cholera broke out after the famine and many died in Dulane. - Long ago the houses of the poor were merely (mood) mud hovels. The walls were built of yellow clay, and the roof was thatched with rushes.(continues on next page)
