  1. These schools were founded by Rev. Fr. Mac Evoy P.P. Kells. It was Miss Catherine Dempsey who belonged to an old Irish catholic family that gave the buildings for a Convent, and for schools.
    Miss Dempsey lived in Headfort Place in a house where the National Bank stands now.
    As well as the property she left a fund for the clothing of the poor of Kells. Ever since her day it is the Parish Priest of Kells who administers this fund. A large number of pupils (both boys and girls) of the Parish are provided with boots and clothes out of this fund every Winter.
