He is shod about once a month. An old horseshoe is nailed to the stable door for luck.
The pigs are kept in a stable, called a pigsty. the whole year round. There are two home-made troughs in the sty. When the sty is being cleaned out, the pigs are turned out into the yard.
The poultry are kept in the hen-house at night, and are let loose during the day. A large ladder is left lying slanted against one of the walls on the inside of the hen-house for the hens to rest on at night.
A shelf is made along another wall with a lot of boxes on it. a handful of hay is put in each of them. then hens lay in these. There are thirteen eggs put down for a hen;s setting. they are usually hatches in three weeks. If all the chickens live, it is said that Luck is coming to that house.
