    Catholic. No Catholic could sell a horse over £5. In this case the the Catholics became poor. No Catholic was allowed to sit in a Parliament or have any authority over anyone else. There were no teachers allowed to have school in any district but they used to teach in the ditches or in a valley or some hiding place. The result of the Penal was (1) The Protestants became idle and (2) The Catholics became ignorant, without education and poor. They Protestants did not succeed in putting down the Catholic religion.
