She hurried out and loosened the haulter from the priest's neck, thus letting him free on condition he would not make it known. This same tree is still to be seen in Attyconnor.
    It should be added that on the previous evening Miss Lowe entreated her father to let the priest free but the reply he made was "the devil blind me if I do" He was struck stone blind later. There was a song written about him. Mrs Troy remembers a few lines of it.
    "Barry Lowe you all do know.
    He was very ill inclined.
    He dirtied on the alter,
    And the devil knocked him blind."
