- (continued from previous page)they were returning away from the lake a voice spoke and said this lake shall be ever known as Loch na Gall or the Lake of the Strangers. This lake is still in existence Its about five acres in extent and there is neither an inlet or an outlet, there is no shore or shall water but deep black an treacherous and it affords great shooting. Wild geese comes to it very plentiful in the Winter But fishers and shooters has often to fly to safety from a sow which comes out of the lake which apparently this old witch has left for a guardian over Lough na Galt.This small lake is near the River Inny between Bardanstown and Newport between the parishes of Rathowen and Legan. It may be seen on the Ordinance Survey map.
