    6th 1839 destroyed the Police Barracks, the Woollen Mills and several houses. The storm of 1903 caused a fire in Heaton's Mills, in which a baby was burned. The steeple top of St. Mary's Church was blown down and again the long steeple of the Woollen Mills. Trees were torn up and cattle and sheep were killed.
