- (continued from previous page)and had points would be talked of at length and the girls also. In those days if a girl was known to drink tea it would be against her in getting a husband. Smoking was unknown to girls of tender years in those times and would also be against her. Usually the boy and girl were brought together by an outsider appointing a night for the boy to visit the girls house. If he was in a position to do so he would buy a bottle of whiskey and take it with him to the girls house. He would usually be accompanied by some near relative of his own who would start bargaining(continues on next page)
