- For several days or sometimes weeks before a marriage would take place local needle women were called in by the bride to be to make up her flitting This flitting was made up of a mattress, sheets, blankets and two or three quilts. The quilts would take a long time to make and these local women used take with them a quilting frame The material used for these quilt was very cheap and easily procured as it was made up from pieces of material such as old skirts, underskirts remnants from shops Then the big day would arrive The marriage would take place solemnly in the local church All the neighbouring farmers who were on friendly terms with the marriage couple would be invited to take(continues on next page)
