- I lived in Rooskeynamona, Mohill, Co Leitrim. My father used to play the bag-pipes; also the flute ,the melodeon and concertina and teach them also.
Occasionally, a party of boys came to hear the bag-pipes, and spent a couple of hours listening to them and sometimes dancing.
On one of those occasions the party had not left at 10 o'clock, and my brother John and I were ordered to bed. The bedroom was just off the kitchen in which the party was.
However, I started for the bedroom, and my brother was close behind me. I opened the door, and as soon as I entered the room, a dog which was sitting by the fire in the room and which was attached to the leg of a chair by a straw rope stood up, and turned towards me. I gave a terrified screech and rushed back, hitting my brother, and knocking him back into the kitchen. My mother ran towards me and caught me.
I told her of the dog in the room. She went into it at once. The fire and the chair(continues on next page)- Collector
