  1. Pat Furey, Ballinamuck, a blacksmith carried a bag of oats 40 stone weight up a ladder and he was 8 stone himself, he is about thirty years dead. He was eighty years when he died in 1870. A porter who went up the ladder with one bag said that no man in the town of Longford would carry up another. James Reilly, Kiltycreevagh, said there was a man eight stone weight who could carry it up. Peter McAliney Kilty-creevagh walked to Dublin. He left one evening and was in Dublin the next day, 60 years ago. John Connor, Creelaughter mowed a meadow of hay an acre and a half in one day. He was eighty years when he died 40 years ago.
