    The Local Patron Saint
    6th May, 1938.
    There are two patron Saints connected with my district of Granard, Co. Longford, Saint Patrick, and Saint Gusacht.
    There is an old church in Granardkille, Co. Longford, about one mile from the town of Granard, and it is built on the same site that Saint Patrick had his first church erected on, on his first visit to Granard, in the fifth century.
    He and Saint Gusacht walked through a nearby field, and Saint Patrick pointed out to Saint Gusacht where the church was to built, and he said that in years to come there would not be a tree around Granard.
