When they were going to eat their dinner they would put the basket on the middle of the floor, and leave a noggin of buttermilk for each person having dinner, and then they would all sit around the basket, and dine happily.
Long ago when there were no mugs or cups the people drank out of wooden cups which were called noggins, and some of them are still to be seen although they are not used now, but kept well scrubbed and placed on the kitchen dresser.- Collector
