    The snowy locks of eighty years,
    The boy of nine years old.
    The matrons cheeks, bedewed with tears.
    The maid, with locks of gold.
    The rags and silks of want and wealth.
    Here now amalgamate
    Ignoring comfort, cold and health.
    Their wearers supplicate.

    The sick, the sad, the blind and halt
    To-night beneath the sky.
    While stars peep down from Heaven's vault.
    Send forth their prayers on high,
    To God, through Mary - Heaven's Queen.
    For succour in their need.
    Oh! Faith in Irish hearts, I ween,
    Is living faith indeed!

    I stand far off in shaded place.
    The meanest mortal there.
    But when I look on Mary's face
    My heart goes forth in prayer
    And then I know, that even I,
