    very spot the monks stood for hours, chanting their hymns bidding farewell to their once peaceful abode. See the castle was not ten minutes walk from here across the Cnocáin - their hymns reached the ears of the lord and so too their prophecy "that the cruel lord of Rathcline Castle who left them homeless in their own land would live to see the property without an heir." And so they bade adieu to all the old familiar scenes and wended their way to Saints' Island about nine miles due south - on the banks of the Shannon - in fact at this time an island in the true sense of the word.
