    reward for the betrayel of young Dalton and his comrades.
    Jem Daly was not ever captured altho' he was hounded down like a Fox. He lived between Ballygarvan and Boley. Daly's Rock is there still, the Mr Rashfords of Ballygarvan have O Dalys land at present.
    There is still living in this district a grand nephew and niece of Michael O Dalton.
    As well as being a Hedge School master; O Dalton was an excellent Poet, there are still living in the district bits and scraps of O Daltons songs.
    Long after he was sent to Van Diemans Land. One of his songs found its way home;
    Who brought it back, how did it come or who was the person that came back from Van Diemans land, I have done all I could to find out not now but years ago. I also tried to find out the names of his comrades but no one in this district seems to know who they were, the name of an O Kelly was given to me as one of Daltons friends the person who gave me his name does'nt know where he came from or does the say whether he was transported or not.
    The song that made its way home from Van Diemans Land reads like this :-
