    My mother told me that she heard the old people saying...

    My mother told me that she heard the old people saying when she was a child that who-ever wanted to "take" the butter on another person would go and skim the water of the well (with a saucer) he used, in his name. The person whose name was used would not have any butter after churning, after that.
