- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)There were famous spade + shovel makers in or near Blackwater, a few miles to the South. There was a special tool for Potatoe work. It was made of a piece of iron about 16 or 18 ins by 6 ins wide. The smith cut this iron along the edge (about an inch from the edge) down to about 6 ins. The iron was then cut at a point 5 ins and the remaining 1 inch piece was turned down to form a "step". Next he put 3 holes in rotation in the Bar that was left. This tool was special for "Pratie" work.A man named Doran of Ballinellard Blackwater was an able Craftsman in the spade + shovel business.
