In years gone by there used to be a fair held in Clohamon in the parish of Kilrush on the 11th June. It was called "The Patron" All the young people used to go there and enjoyed Irish Dancing and stories. In the evening the men-kind used to indulge in drink often followed by quarrelling and often many ugly things occurred. This gathering has not been held for a number of years.
A similar day used to be held in Bunclody on the 17th of June. This was also called "The Patron of the year" The people used to dress up and play cards.
