"Templeshelin" is so called from the fact that the Protestant Church which is situated in Templeshelin was once surrounded by many cherry-trees.
These trees, from continuous cutting, have disappeared, but a few remain still. The Irish name for Templeshelin is "Teampall Silín," which means The Temple of the Cherries.
