- About 100 years ago a girl named Peggy Furlong, Glynn, Co. Wexford candles out of rushes.First she used to gather a bundle rushes. Then she used to peel them.
Some time after that she used to dry them. Then she used to dip them into new-made grease and leave them out to get hard. When the candle got hard it was finished. A good long candle would burn for about an hour.- Collector

- Mrs Anne Walshe, Sparrowsland, Bree, Co. Wexford was very good for making candles.She made them out of bees' wax and the wick she used was a cord
She shaped them by cutting the out of a round piece of wood and using it as a mould. She put a piece of cord in the mould first She melted the wax and poured(continues on next page)
