Later a little lamp called a brinín was used. It had a round wick like a Sacred Heat lamp but was globe.
Then candles came into use and last of all the parafin oil lamps of today.
Candles
Candles were made in Ballyduff. They were made from tallow and fat. - Once upon a time there lived a man not far from Clonmacroise and he used often go to his neighbour's house. About ten o'clock he was going to go home and the old woman of the house told him that it was safter for him until morning.
Of course the man did not want to stay so he started for home. The man of the hosue left him about a hundred yards(continues on next page)
