- Spades: In olden times blacksmiths used to make spades. There used to be a wooden step on the forge - made spade. Some such spades were made in Ferbane as late as fifty years ago.
Candles: About fifty years ago people used to go to the bog and get a sheaf of rushes, peal them, dry them, and melt suet or greas and dip the rushes in it. In that way they made candles.
Baskets: In olden times the people used to get hazel rods, put a point on them and twist them in and out to make baskets at home. This work is still done by Patrick Caulfield Derrica Ferbane.- Collector
