    Up with the kettle and down with the pan.
    A penny or twopence will bury the wren,
    Ladies and gentlemen open your purse,
    For this time twelve months you'll be nothing worse".
    They generally have a box for the money, and twopence or threepence is thrown into it from every house. When the day is over, they divide the money among themselves, they have a party that evening, and that ends the day.
    The Shrove Tuesday pancakes are made and a ring is put in them, whoever gets the ring will be married first that year.
    On St. Kiernan's Day "A Pattern" is held in Clonmacnoise each year.
    A lot of old customs is kept for Hallow Eve. People dive for apples and money.
    On St. Patrick's Day the people wear shamrock in honour of St. Patrick, who is Patron of Ireland.
    On Ash Wednesday, ashes are blessed and put on our foreheads.
    A custom for Good Friday is:- people keep three hours' silence in memory of the three hours' agony of our Lord on the Cross.
    On Easter Saturday eggs are cooked, and are eaten on Easter Sunday.
