There was no chimney only rods twisted together. Sometimes there was a fire on the middle of the floor. The there was a hole in the roof of the house to let out the smoke. In these houses, there was aged in the corner. This was called a ‘settle bed’. In some houses there was a ‘bunk’ to sleep in. There was a large square box with a bed in it. The chimney made of timber and rods was called’blubhun’?
Old timber was burned very often here in olden times. The old timber that was got in the big was called ‘smúrcain?”. ‘Ualoch smúrcain’’ was whatthe load of blocks was called. Plenty of turf was burned also. Halfdoors are still in use here. It is believed that it is not right to close any door that was in use by a generation before that. This was thought because someone might be coming in there at night.
