- EcclesiasticalThe ancient parish of Castletara was much larger than it is at present. It comprised the present parish a portion of Larah and a portion of Drung. It was then called Cul brigid. The Ancient Church of Cul Brigid stood near shantimon at a place now called "Kettoes" near the old Coronation Stone.
The old church of Ballyhaise stood at the Oakwood. it was called St. Mary's. When the O'Reillys were lords of Drumholme they attended mass etc. here. Near land was the Franciscan monastery of Broomfield.
