  1. Potatoes are grown on my fathers farm. About half an acre is sown under potatoes each year.
    The servant boy prepares the ground and it is manured before being turned up.
    The potatoes are sown in ridges and the ridges are made with a spade. The spades re bought in a shop.
    The potatoes are cut in to small cuts with one eye in each cut.
    They are left for a day in a bag and then they are set.
    After a couple of weeks the green tips begin to appear above the ground.
    In a few weeks they are shovelled and in the month of July when
