- Long ago in this district bread was made from wheat corn and oates grown locally.
Querns were used in this district for grinding oaten-meal.
One of the grindstones is to be seen at the house of Patrick Smyth Ringfield.
The different kinds of bread made were wheaten and oaten-meal bread boxty-bread and potato-cake.
Potato-cake was made from boiled potatoes and flour. Boxty-bread was made from grated potatoes and flour.
Wheaten bread is made from wheaten meal and flour.(continues on next page)
