- Our own town of Killeshandra takes its name from an old church built in a rath on the lake strand. There is a field in Castle Hamilton demesne called "Paddy Shaun Bawn's Garden." In the penal days a man named Patrick O'Reilly lived in a house in this field. I believe he also owned a lot of what is now Castle Hamilton demesne. He was a noted patriot in this locality and it is believed he was hanged by Lord South-Well's soldiers who then took all his lands. There is a song sung locally about him.
