  1. The ancient Irish believed in some very amusing cures. When children were ill with mumps a halter was procured and put round their necks and they were led three times round a pig sty. For whooping cough the cure was to give the patient some milk that a ferret had partaken of.
    For to cure the tooth ache a prayer was used as follows
    "Saint Peter was sitting
    weeping on a stone.
