from the lough saying, "Never put the straddle where the saddle ought to be". Myles took great care of the foal and when it grew up he trained it. He was delighted at how well it could gallop and leap. Then Myles joined the Volunteers and got command of a regiment. When he was killed at Finea his mare leaped the bridge and galloped home. Some time later Myles's brother went to cart the mare but as soon as he put on the straddle she gave a great neigh and fell dead. Then they knew that they had done wrong as the straddle should not be put on her.
