  1. In dreary dark December in the year of nintyfour.
    That night shall be remembered till our days on earth are o'er.
    The night was dark, cold blue the wind and thickly fell the rain.
    We lost the pride of Ardleny at the end of the Long Lane.
    When Gipson and his yeomen came to chase the Poteen still,
    The gallant men of Ardleny, they put them through their drill.
    They ransacked all before them and destroyed the country.
    Till they were met by captain Kiernan at the Bush of Ardleny.
