    When every parish had its sport and held its patron day.
    Thousands came from every part this glorious sight to see.
    Horse-racing and cock-fighting and every other spree.
    Pipers, fiddlers and dancers came to the Bush of Ardleny.
    It would take a nobler pen than mine to write this tragedy.
    And to tell all was witnessed at our old and ancient tree.
    Our ancient Bush is now blown down it will never bloom again.
    Nor on the hill of Ardleny no more it will be seen.
    Farewell, farewell sweet Ardleny Bush good bye, good bye to thee.
    Till the end of time no more it will shine in the town of Ardleny.
