Dear Mr. Benson,
1
In the year of Our Lord 1928,
Hetherton of Drumcarey has little to eat,
So Im sending on chance for eight st. of flour,
And is watching Currans return at the usual hour.
2
My account it is large, three Mts. ago it was worse,
But I'll go down in March with a well filled purse,
And pay up the balance if any remain,
And I'll drink a jar of stout with my friend Tom Mc Clean
3
The manager at Lossett soon will wed,
He says he wont wait like Farrelly,
Till he is grey in the head
The damsel he picked drinks, fights, powders and paints
And smokes cigarettes 'till she's ready to faint
