- About a hundred years ago there was a school in Carrickavee. It was built in James Smith's field and the remains of it are there yet. It was a man named master Jackey Dick who taught. One man who was at it was Hugh Mc Enroe of Carrickare who died last March. All the boys brought him a penny every week and he was staying in the boy's houses in turn. In olden times there were a lot more people than there are now a days. In the winter time when the people had not much to do they went to school.
