  1. Long ago there was an old house in our yard where a man the name of Donnelly taught school. It is between ninety five and one hundred years ago. He stayed in his own house and he came there to teach school. There was a blackboard for the master to write on. The children had slates. The taught English because the country was under the English king, but the English that they had was not very good. There was a good deal of Irish in it.
