- There is a holy well in Longfield in the parish of Mullagh nearly three miles from Virginia. This well is known as Saint Kilian's well. Saint Kilian was the patron Saint of Mullagh church. His feast is celberated on the 8th June. On the lane leading to the well there are ruins of old houses.Saint Kilian was martyred in Franconia in Germany. The cathedral of Wurtemburg is erected to his memory. Mullagh church is also dedicated to his memory.Nearly thirty years ago the priests and teachers of Mullagh Parish tried to revive the memory of St. Kilian. They got a collection of poems composed by a local poet about St. Kilian. The teachers of the five schools of the parish instructed the children to recite these poems. Then on St. Kilian's day there was a procession and afterward the children recited the poems before a large crow in Mullagh school. Prizes were given to the best children. There were sports afterwards. Speeches were given by Miss Agnes O'Farrelly and other noted people. They urged the people to come to the well each year(continues on next page)
