The person repeating this rhyme takes a pencil and jots down a mark as he pronounces every accented syllable. He then counts up the marks and proves them correct to the surprise of the children looking on.
    One' two' five'
    I caught a hair'y fox' alive'
    One' two' ten'.
    I let' him go' again'
    I bet a pound with a'ny man'
That all' my strokes' ere twe'nty one'
When the marks are counted they total twenty one.
