   Nursed beneath an Irish mountain by an Irish mother's hand,
   Where the mild Borora whispers to the meadows of the land
   Taught the music of the harper and the anthems of the blast
   Kilian grew as grows the ash-tree by the rivers of the west.

   Winter stars that light in splendour Eire's calm and brilliant sky
   Might have borrowed their chaste brightness from the gleaming of the eye;
   The young lily bending lowly when the dew was in the air
   Was a type of his meek spirit when his young lips moved in prayer.
   V
   And the angel who at sunset bore on pearly bordered wing's
   The libations of his spirit up wards to the King of Kings,
   Whispered in a thrilling whisper to his eager listening ear,
   Dreams of where the nations knew not God, His teachings, love or fear.
