   wire, and a sheet of paper inside, used instead of glass windows. The old floors were made of clay, and even up to the present day, there are clay floors to be seen. Half doors are fair by common in the district, but they were more numerous formerly. Turf and wood were used for the fire in olden days.
   Bog deal-splinters, candles, dips, rush, lights, squibs, ink-bottles with a piece of cloth soaked in oil in them, were employed for giving light at night. The rush-candles were made in the district by hanging a bunch of rushes dipped in tallow near the fire, and when they wanted light, they only had to put one of them in the fire. Candles were sometimes made by the people also.
