    As I strutted out one fine summer morning.

    As I strutted out one fine summer morning,
    By the bank of a clear crystal stream.
    I sat down on a bunch of primroses.
    I slumbered and began to dream.
    I dreamt of a beautiful maiden.
    Her equal I ne'er saw before.
    And she mourned for the right of her country
    As she strayed down by Erin's green shore.
    She was dressed in the grandest attire
    And green was the mantle she wore.
    It was trimmed with a red rose and shamrock.
    That grows round Erin's green shore.
    I badly addressed this fair maiden saying
    Darling come tell me your name
    For only I know you're a stranger
    I would not have asked you that
