    Great relief can also be obtained by taking a teaspoonful of bread soda in a cup of butter milk.
    The sting of a bee is very painful but instant relief can be obtained by rubbing the sting with the blue bag.
    Bread soda applied to a simple burn or scald will give great relief.
    A simple remedy for a whitlow is when the gathering is first felt to dip the finger into water as hot as can be borne.
    Linseed poultice or bread poultice is also very good.
    A pious practice handed down from the days of our grandmothers is to abstain from meat on St. Stephen's day so as to be preserved from all contagious diseases during the year.
